Congo Nile Trail Gisenyi to Kibuye is a two-day hiking adventure through the scenic landscapes of western Rwanda. Follow local trails through rolling hills, farmland and rural communities while enjoying spectacular views of Lake Kivu. The journey offers an opportunity to experience Rwanda on foot, connect with local communities and discover the changing landscapes between Gisenyi and Kibuye.

Itinerary

Day 1Gisenyi – Kinunu via Cyimbili

The 16.5 km stage of the Congo Nile Trail starts from Rubavu, near Bralirwa brewery. Stage one ends at Cyimbiri Guest House located on the shores of Lake Kivu and surrounded mainly by coffee estates and other green plantations. In the middle of this stage, you can choose as your option to do different community-based activities from traditional pottery, traditional healing trail to coffee- crop to cup.

In the evening, take a 40 minute motorboat ride to Kinunu.

Overnight in Kinunu

Day 2Kinunu – Musasa – Kibuye

13 Km Trail gives hikers an opportunity to walk around rolling hills and have a great view of the clear water of the Lake Kivu with numerous islands of Kibuye, because the hiking trail is high above Lake Kivu providing amazing views of the lake and the Koko-River Valley. Take a boat to visit Napoleon Island for fruit bats and vervet monkey before arriving to Kibuye.
